Termite Control in Denton, TX

Helping You With Termite Removal & Prevention Services

Termite calls in Denton come in two waves. The March wave, when a warm day after a rain sends swarmers out of a stump, a patio crack or a window frame and the wings end up on a sill. And the year-round wave, which is a home inspector's report, a remodel that opened a wall, or a soft spot in a pier-and-beam floor near the square.

All-Safe Pest & Termite has treated termites in Denton since 1984, and our technicians are licensed for structural termite work, which in Texas is a separate license from general pest control. We inspect with an infrared camera as well as a flashlight, and we'll tell you plainly whether the swarm you saw came from the yard or from the house, because the answer decides whether you need us at all.

What Are Signs You Have Termites in Your Home or Business?

What Are Signs You Have Termites in Your Home or Business? A Check You Can Do Today

Walk the outside of the house and look at the brick, the stone or the pier where it meets the ground. You're looking for a pencil-width line of dried mud running up from the soil, in a spot that stays shaded or damp: behind the shrubs, under the hose bib, beside the air conditioner pad, or inside the garage where the slab meets the wall. That's a mud tube, and it means subterranean termites are moving between the ground and the wood right now. Don't knock it off. Leave it so we can confirm it's active.

Then check the three other signs, in the order Denton homeowners actually find them:

  • Shed wings on a windowsill, a patio or in a spider web by the door in March or April, all the same size and shape. Swarmers drop them within an hour of landing.
  • Wood that sounds hollow when you tap it, along a baseboard, a door frame or a window sill, especially near a window that has leaked.
  • On the pier-and-beam homes near the square: a soft or springy spot in a floor, or tubes on a pier or a sill plate in the crawl space.

If you find a tube or wings, put the wings in a bag and take a photo of the tube before anyone cleans up. If you find nothing, that is genuinely good news, and the next step is a check every year or two rather than a treatment.

When Do Termites Tend to Infest in Denton?

All year. The eastern subterranean termite, which is the termite in nearly every Denton job, feeds twelve months in this climate because the soil under a slab never freezes. What has a season is the swarm. In Denton it runs from late February into May, on the first warm, still days after a rain, and it happens in daylight. Swarmers are dark, about the length of a grain of rice, with two pairs of equal-length wings longer than the body. A flying ant has a pinched waist and unequal wings; half the swarm calls we take in March turn out to be ants, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a treatment.

A swarm in the yard tells you a mature colony lives nearby, in a stump, a fence post, landscape timbers or the soil under an old tree. It is a reason to inspect, not to panic. A swarm coming out of the house, from a wall, a window frame, a door casing or a crack in the slab, means the colony is already feeding on the structure, and that one is a call the same day.

What Are The Dangers of Having Termites Infest Your Home?

The honest answer is that termite damage is slow. Subterranean termites take months and years to do structural harm, not weeks, so a house with an active tube is not about to fall down and a week's delay to get a second opinion changes nothing. What the delay costs is money, because the damage adds up quietly behind the sheetrock and homeowners' insurance almost never covers it.

Here's what happens when you call. The estimate visit is free. A state-certified technician walks the foundation, the weep holes and the irrigation, goes into the crawl space on a pier-and-beam home, checks the interior with a flashlight and, where activity is suspected, with an infrared camera that finds the temperature signature of a colony behind sheetrock without opening the wall. You get a plain explanation and a written price before anything is scheduled. On an active slab home the treatment is usually a liquid barrier at the foundation and, where it fits, a bait system around the perimeter that keeps working after the treatment.
