Rodent Control in Dallas
Roof Rat and Mouse Removal for Dallas Homes, Sealed First and Trapped Second
Rodent work in Dallas is roof rat work. The pecans, live oaks and cedar elms that make Lakewood, Lake Highlands, Preston Hollow and the M Streets what they are also make a road for roof rats from the alley to the roof, and once the nights cool in October the attics fill up. All-Safe Pest & Termite has been sealing and trapping Dallas attics since 1984, from our office on Municipal Avenue in Plano, and the order of those two words is the whole method. We find how they got in, we close it in a way they can't chew through, and then we remove what's already inside and keep coming back until the traps stay empty.
Looking for expert rodent control? Call (972) 945-9226 or reach out online today, the first visit is a walk around the property with a written price, not a sales call!
The Two-Minute Attic Check
Take a flashlight up the attic ladder after dark and don't go any further than the top step. Shine it across the insulation. What you're looking for is a runway: a trench pressed into the insulation along a joist or a duct, sometimes with a shine to it. Then droppings, the size and shape of a grain of rice, dark and pointed at the ends, clustered near the runway or along the top plate of an exterior wall. Then the smell, which is musky and unmistakable once you've met it. Chewed cardboard, shredded insulation pulled into a ball near the eave, and dark rub marks along a rafter are the rest of the list. A few droppings and nothing else can be old; a fresh runway means they're in residence.
Outside, look at the gable vents from the yard for a pushed-in screen, look at the line where the fascia board meets the roof deck for a dark gap, and look at the top of the fence for half-eaten pecans and snail shells. If the pecan tree over the alley touches the roof, that's the on-ramp. If you found a runway, you don't need to see the rat. Call, and tell us what you saw.
Which Rodent You Have, and Why It Changes the Job
Roof rats are the one in the attic. Dark, slender, a tail longer than the body, and comfortable twenty feet off the ground. They travel the tree canopy and the fence lines, drop onto the roof, and get in through gable vents, the fascia gap, a plumbing stack boot or a bathroom exhaust vent. They nest in the insulation and in stored boxes, and they feed outside at night on pecans, birdseed, dog food left on the patio and the fruit on your neighbor's fig tree. Nearly every attic call in Lakewood, Lake Highlands, Preston Hollow, Bluffview and the M Streets is a roof rat.
Norway rats are the one at ground level, heavier and blunter, living along the Trinity and the creek corridors and in the older commercial districts, and coming in low through a garage door gap or a foundation crack. The fix for those is at the ground and the perimeter, not the roofline.
House mice are the one in the garage and behind the stove. Small enough to fit through the weep holes in brick veneer, the gap under a garage door, and the hole where the water line enters. Mice are the most common rodent call from the newer slab homes in Far North Dallas, and the least serious.
